Concert For Peace: 12 May 2002 |
"In 2001 Amnesty
International was the chosen charity of the Musicians Union and members
were asked to put on an event to raise funds & help campaign for
the release of Ngawang Choephel, a Tibetan musician who had been imprisoned
for 18 years by the Chinese authorities - his crime? ... gathering
material for a documentary about traditional Tibetian performing arts.
This year Ngawang was released and Amnesty Intrenational continues
its work to raise public awareness of human rights issues so I am grateful
to you for helping me to try to make a difference" Catherine Handley. |
